A blessing is a gift from divine powers bestowed upon the skirmish party in anticipation of the upcoming encounter. Blessing, however, are not without cost and must be purchased with Fate – before the encounter, divine powers have been appeased with ritual sacrifices or beseeched with prayer.
After their forces have been deployed on the table, each player may spend two Fate at the beginning of an encounter to purchase a blessing for the party. Fate spent for purchasing a blessing are not available during the encounter and the size of the player’s Fate pool is permanently reduced by 2 for the duration of the game.
It is important to note that a blessing can only be used once per game. A blessing is used when the hero is nominated for activation. The player must declare that the blessing is being used before the activation die is rolled – the blessing affects the hero. The effect of the blessing lasts until the maintenance phase of the turn that the blessing was activated.
Lady of the Hunt
The Lady of the Hunt represents deities of the wilderness and patrons of hunters and rangers. The Lady of the Hunt grants the skirmish party the wisdom to see with complete clarity. Nothing remains hidden as the field of battle is seen from high.
For the remainder of the turn in which the Lady of the hunt bestows her blessing, every character receives a +2 to their Ranged Attack attribute.
Lord of War
Whether an actual avatar of Mars or a nature spirit that grants animal ferocity, the Lord of War blesses characters with increased strength and fighting prowess. Given a blessing by a god of war, they have been granted the ability to hammer their foes into submission.
For the remainder of the turn in which the blessing is activated, every character receives a +2 to their Melee Attack attribute.
Father of the Forges
The Father of the Forges represents a deity of protection and guardianship. Through the Father of the Forges, the threads of the character’s lives are woven with steel, making them harder to kill. Blows that would fell most, glance off them.
For the remainder of the turn in which the blessing is activated, every character receives a +2 to their Physical Defense attribute.
The Clockmaker is a manifestation of time itself. For the characters’ party, the Clockmaker grants increased speed as time slows around them. The characters have been blessed with swiftness in thought and action.
For the remainder of the turn in which the blessing is activated, every character receives a +2 to their activation die roll.
The trickster represents messenger gods and patrons of travelers. She grants the characters a swiftness of movement. The very ground honors their cause, clearing before them.
For the remainder of the turn in which the blessing is activated, every character adds +2” to any move actions. The characters ignore penalties for rough terrain.
The Shroud-Bringer is an avatar of the god of death, dying, and the underworld. The darkest of the gods has blessed the characters with a moment of respite. This is not their moment to fall.
For the remainder of the turn in which the blessing is activated, every character gains the Tough trait.
